Meaningful Research for All
Small Thoughtful Science
Binomica Labs is a small non-profit (pending) research laboratory in New York City, run by a dedicated international group of volunteers with the goal of creating educational materials enabling attributable scientific research. We work by closely collaborating with experts and educators on chosen research topics, creating the necessary tools and frameworks to help students generate new knowledge. Along with fellow scientists, early-stage researchers are furtherly invited to provide feedback and participate as fully attributed partners, building up towards publication-quality research in peer-reviewed journals or pre-print servers (bioRxiv).

The Invisible College

Peer learning is an educational practice, in which the risk of focusing on process rather than products is avoided by recognizing that, ultimately, learning takes place between individuals. This allows for well-matched interpersonal interchanges that are based on trust and commitment. We propose an Invisible College, a collective of established researchers who wish to donate some of their time and expertise to anonymously review manuscripts and give crucial feedback on the quality and direction of the researcher’s work, regardless of age or other demographics. It’s a means of exposing curious students to the rules of peer review. The constructive criticism gained through this process will help shape the quality and rigor of both the experiments being conducted and of their leading researchers.

We honestly do not know what to expect or gain from each endeavor unless we look, as there are things we know we don’t know and things we don’t know we don’t know. That’s our challenge to you! Help us bring properly attributed, quality research projects to more people. For those keen on knowing more, the personal voyage of discovery can be daunting. We wish to help ease brave explorers into uncharted waters by equipping them with good tools, a strong foundation in experimental design, and lifelines for when the seas become rough.
